About Jorrie Custom Guitars

StringsJorrie Custom Guitars is named in memory of the legendary Jorrie Jordaan. Every instrument is a celebration of his life and the values of integrity, humility, and craftsmanship he displayed in his lifetime.

Jorrie was the father of Albertus Jordaan, who is the guitar master at Jorrie Guitars. Taking inspiration from his father’s carpentry skills and a love of guitars Albertus built his first guitar while still a teenager.  Since then he has spent many years perfecting his craft and studying the techniques employed by other famous guitar-makers.

In particular, Albertus’s technique was strongly influenced by the work of the legendary guitar-maker Robert Benedetto - famous for his remarkable arch-top jazz guitars.

Our workshop is situated in the small town of Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo region of South Africa. With its dry air, Calitzdorp is ideal for drying out wood to the desired level of 6% humidity – a figure ideal for bringing the best acoustic qualities out of the wood.
